SOUTHLAND : Collision Sinks Fishing Boat; 2 Hurt
Two people were injured in a violent predawn boat collision that sank one vessel and prompted a U.S. Coast Guard rescue effort today to save 37 people from chilly Pacific waters.
The 50-foot Temptress, which sank, was carrying five passengers and three crew members when it collided with the Aztec, a 65-foot vessel with 29 people aboard, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Steven Dickerson.
The accident occurred about 3 a.m. about 30 miles south of San Diego near Los Coronados Islands as the Temptress was heading out on a 24-hour fishing trip and the Aztec was returning from a three-day fishing trip.
