Gov. Mario Cuomo, saying New York “provided the field of dreams of the very first boys of summer,” signed legislation permitting license plates to proclaim the state as “the birthplace of baseball.”
Baseball officially recognizes that the game was invented by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, N.Y., in 1839.
