Mom Gets In Best Punch to Help Son Win
Tony Wilson won his fight in three rounds Thursday night after his mother climbed into the ring and hit his opponent over the head with her stiletto shoe.
Steve McCarthy left the ring with blood seeping from his head as security officers ushered Mrs. Minna Wilson away. McCarthy, a local favorite, refused to return, so referee Adrian Morgan raised Wilson’s arm in victory.
Uproar broke out among the 1,000 spectators at The Guildhall, site of the British light-heavyweight title fight.
Wilson, from Wolverhampton, was kicked and punched by the crowd, furious at the referee’s decision, before escaping to a dressing room.
Wilson said: “The first thing I saw was my mum in the ring, and then everything went wild.”
