Front-running Bayakoa, a 5-year-old South American-bred mare, ended Open Mind’s 10-stake winning streak in the $226,400 Ruffian Handicap at Belmont Park.

It was Open Mind’s first start against older horses. She rallied on the outside entering the stretch and got almost even with Bayakoa and Colonial Waters, but she could get no closer than third in the final sixteenth.

Bayakoa, carrying high weight of 125 pounds, beat Colonial Waters by 3 1/2 lengths. Open Mind was another neck back.
