From Times staff and wire service reports

In his first court appearance since being charged with abducting and raping a 12-year-old Huntington Beach girl, Kyle Joseph Borges was hidden from public view today in Westminster as a judge revoked his bail.

A public defender, convincing Orange County Municipal Court Judge Marvin G. Weeks to keep Borges seated in a back room out of public view during the court appearance, said he feared that having the defendant’s picture appear in the media would prejudice the case against him.

Police arrested Borges after issuing a composite drawing of the rape suspect that produced more than 100 calls from the public. Meanwhile, Weeks agreed to a defense motion to put off Borges’ arraignment until Oct. 13 and rescinded bail for the defendant, which had been set at $1 million.

Borges is accused of breaking into a home in a wealthy area of Huntington Beach early Sunday, taking the 12-year-old away in his truck as her shocked father awoke, then raping her and dumping the injured and badly shaken girl nude from the cab.
