Scout Slain in Drive-By Shooting
As the parents of a Los Angeles Police Explorer, we can sympathize with the family of Explorer Anthony Jerome Gardner. What a tragedy to have a good member of society eliminated while the drug dealers and gangs ply their trade of street terror.
The Sheriff and Los Angeles Police Explorer programs are filled with young men and women (such as Explorer Gardner) who volunteer their time to community service. It is a wonderful program for young people interested in law enforcement and the decent people such as Jerome Gardner die too young.
As parents, we fear our son’s potential involvement in law enforcement. The indiscriminate killing has got to stop or the good young people will be deterred from community service and law enforcement.
