Trauma Center
I want to add another few words to the subject of the closure of the trauma center at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center.
It seems tragically ironic to me that this fine center is in imminent danger of closure, due to inadequate funding, exactly a year after the heroic, yet unsuccessful, attempts to save the life of one of our friends, Debbie Killelea. She arrived at the center, near death, after being hit by a drunken teen-ager in the alley behind her Newport Beach home.
We can never plan when such a tragedy will strike one of us, yet we must have the foresight to provide for the eventuality. Trauma centers save lives of rich and poor alike.
