Symposium on Case Study Houses
The Museum of Contemporary Art will present a symposium and reception Oct. 21 in conjunction with the architectural exhibition “Blueprints for Modern Living: History and Legacy of the Case Study Houses.”
The symposium will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Japan America Theatre, 244 S. San Pedro St. It will consist of a dialogue between original Case Study architects and designers as well as a round-table discussion among a group of well-known contemporary architects. A reception will follow at the Temporary Contemporary, 152 N. Central Ave.
Tickets are $25 for the symposium, $35 for the reception, $55 for both.
MOCA Director Richard Koshalek and Elizabeth Smith, curator of the Case Study exhibition, will open the symposium, followed by architectural historian Esther McCoy, architectural editor Barbara Goldstein and Jacqueline Leavitt, associate professor at the UCLA Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Planning.
The dialogue will feature Craig Ellwood, Don Hensman, Elaine Jones, head of the A. Quincy Jones Architectural Archives; Ed Killingsworth, Pierre Koenig, Ralph Rapson, Whitney Smith and Calvin Straub.
Round-table panelists will include Ned Eichler, Barton Myers, Adele Naude Santos, Frank O. Gehry and William Krisel. Donald Canty will moderate.
