PLNC’s Tadese Is First in Riverside Cross-Country

Point Loma Nazarene’s Goshu Tadese defeated a field of 157 runners Saturday to win the UC Riverside Invitational cross-country meet. He covered the men’s five-mile course in 24:17 at UCR.
In team scoring, the Crusaders (128 points) finished third behind CS Northridge (63) and UCR (75). San Diego State finished sixth and the University of San Diego was tenth.
In women’s team standings, USD was sixth and PLNC finished ninth.
VOLLEYBALL
UC San Diego’s Diana Klintworth led the Tritons to a 15-10, 10-15, 13-15, 15-9, 15-12 nonconference victory in women’s volleyball at La Verne. Klintworth had 23 kills for UCSD (13-9). La Verne is 8-9.
Heather Kelley of visiting U.S. International had 22 kills, but the Gulls fell short against CS Northridge, losing the nonconference match, 15-9, 8-15, 15-13, 15-6. USIU dropped to 4-9. Northridge is 10-6.
SOCCER
The Point Loma Nazarene men’s team lost its Golden State Athletic Conference opener at Westmont College, 6-0. Point Loma dropped to 2-4-2. Westmont, ranked No. 2 by the NAIA, improved to 10-2.
WATER POLO
UCSD dropped a nonconference men’s match to Long Beach State, 10-6, in Long Beach. Jason Vance had three goals for the Tritons (10-7). The 49ers are 6-3.
GOLF
U.S. International’s John Adams is tied for 13th after 36 holes at the New Mexico State Coca-Cola Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. Adams (72-74--146) is six strokes behind leader Mark Massengale of Texas Christian (72-68--140) on the par-72, 7,040-yard course.
Texas Christian is the team leader going into today’s final round. SDSU and USIU are 12th and 13th.
