Commissioners Can Do Without ID Badges, Supervisors Decide

Share

Orange County planning commissioners will not be flashing shiny metal identification badges when they inspect building sites or undeveloped property.

The Board of Supervisors rejected the idea Tuesday.

“I was opposed to it from the beginning,” said Supervisor Gaddi H. Vasquez, a former police officer with the city of Orange. “I feel there would be no need to possess a badge, and I’m not sure what purpose it would serve.”

Two weeks ago, the Environmental Management Agency, acting as the budgeting office for the Planning Commission, asked the supervisors for $600 for five identification badges stamped with the county seal. The planning commissioners felt that they needed the badges for better identification.

The supervisors delayed a decision then, but rejected the idea Tuesday.

Board Chairman Thomas F. Riley said that if the board approved badges for the Planning Commission there would be requests from other boards and commissions. “There would be a proliferation.”
