The city has retained “some of the most creative and innovative design and planning professionals in the country” to help plan the revitalization of the downtown area during a three-day work session beginning today, city officials said.

With the help of Partners for Livable Places, a nonprofit organization that specializes in inner-city improvements, the city selected seven design and planning professionals who will guide the participants in the revitalization process.

About 800 community representatives and other residents will also contribute suggestions to the session.
