Laguna Hills Runs Over Artesia, 13-7

A strong rushing attack and consistent defense led Laguna Hills High School to 13-7 nonleague victory over Artesia Thursday at Mission Viejo High School.

Marwan Saba and Darrin Chapman combined to gain 179 yards in 33 carries for Laguna Hills (2-3). Laguna Hills attempted only six passes, completing one for 32 yards. Laguna Hills rushed 44 times for 193 yards and two touchdowns, finishing with 225 yards total offense. Saba finished with 121 yards to increase his season total to 423.

Chapman scored Laguna Hills’ first touchdown on a seven-yard run with 3:24 remaining in the second quarter. The 34-yard drive was set up by Brad Grebel’s fumble recovery.

Laguna Hills increased its lead to 13-0 in the fourth quarter on quarterback Mark Wells’ four-yard run.

Laguna Hills’ defense, led by lineman Dusty Christensen and Christian Ritz and linebackers Craig Riggs and Aric Roman, limited Artesia to 96 yards rushing.

Artesia (1-4) gained 72 of its 167 yards on a touchdown drive late in the game, which was capped by David Olivas’ 10-yard pass to Robert Matos with 3:05 left.
