Steinbrenner Angers Prosecutor
New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has asked a Milwaukee County judge to show leniency toward outfielder Luis Polonia, who is serving a 60-day sentence for having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
Steinbrenner characterized Polonia, 24, as “a little kid who really doesn’t know his way around,” the Milwaukee Journal reported. “It isn’t like (Polonia) grabbed a girl, put her in the car, took her to the hotel and did something with her.”
The prosecutor, assistant district attorney John D. DiMotto, called the Yankee owner’s comments “totally outrageous and offensive,” adding:
“Luis Polonia is and was an adult. And he did not act responsibly. He acted criminally.”
Polonia said the girl had consented, but the judge said the girl was too young to be able to give consent.
