In Pathe’s “Not Without My Daughter,” Sally Field will play an American whose marriage to an Iranian doctor falls apart, forcing her to escape from Iran with the couple’s young daughter. Produced by Harry and Mary Jane Ufland, the film is slated to begin shooting in the Middle East in January. Brian Gilbert will direct his own script. . . .

It seems that Bette Midler’s next project will be done off the Disney lot where her film career was resurrected. Midler has signed to play a USO entertainer during World War II in Fox’s “For Our Boys.” Still uncast is the male lead, said to be a “Bob Hope” type. . . .

Robert Redford, who returns to the screen for the first time since “Legal Eagles” has been joined by Swedish actress Lena Olin (“The Unbearable Lightness of Being”) in the cast of Sydney Pollack’s “Havana,” a romance set against the Castro revolution. Redford plays an American gambler who comes to Havana for a good time and winds up falling in love with Olin, an ex-Hollywood actress married to a Cuban revolutionary. . . .

Nicolas Cage and Tommy Lee Jones will star in “Wings of the Apache,” a ripped-from-the-headlines action drama about an Army task force preparing for an anti-drug mission in South America. The Apache is a state-of-the-art helicopter. Producer William Badalato, who executive-produced “Top Gun,” and British director David Green (“Buster”) launch production Oct. 27 in Texas and Arizona. . . .

Frank McRae and Brian James will recreate their original roles as San Francisco cops in the “48 HRS.” sequel, which director Walter Hill prefers to call “Another 48 HRS.” Paramount, however, insists on calling the Eddie Murphy-Nick Nolte vehicle “48 HRS. II.” Production gets underway in San Francisco on Dec. 9. . . .

Second City veterans John Candy and Rick Moranis may reteam as a pair of deejays in Imagine Films’ “On the Air.” Sources say that both actors are very interested in the Jeffrey Berman-Jerry Rapp screenplay. . . .

Joanne Whalley-Kilmer, who played Christine Keeler in the recent “Scandal,” joins Charlie Sheen, Michael Beihn and Rick Rossovich in Orion’s “Navy SEALS,” which is shooting under Lewis Teague’s direction in Virginia and Spain. The action adventure concerns an elite, covert military force that is at home at sea, in the air, or on land. Beihn played a SEAL-gone-mad in “The Abyss”. . . .

Chad Lowe (“Nobody’s Perfect”) and Kristy Swanson (“Knots Landing”) have grabbed the lead roles in Hemdale’s “Highway To Hell,” scheduled for an Oct. 25 start in Arizona. . . . Actor-director Keith Gordon will write and direct “A Midnight Clear” for A&M; Films.
