Tennessee’s offense sputtered and all but stopped against Georgia’s determined defense, but the sixth-ranked Volunteers came through with just enough to manage a 17-14 victorySaturday night at Knoxville, Tenn.

“Georgia played rugged, hard-nosed football, but so did we,” said Tennessee Coach Johnny Majors, whose team improved to 5-0 with its 10th consecutive victory over two seasons.

A crowd of 96,058, third largest in the history of Neyland Stadium, saw the Volunteers mount just one offensive threat in the second half but make it pay off as Reggie Cobb raced 26 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to give Tennessee a 17-6 lead.

Hollingsworth, a senior who started his first game for the Tide a week ago, threw for 363 yards, hitting 25 of 43 passes.

Mississippi is 3-2 and 1-1.
