Midway to Purchase German Planes: Midway Airlines...

Midway to Purchase German Planes: Midway Airlines Inc., a mid-size carrier that is expanding rapidly, announced that it has agreed to purchase 33 twin-engine, turbo-prop airplanes for $244 million from West German manufacturer Dornier Deutsche Aerospace GmbH. Sandra Allen, a spokeswoman for Chicago-based Midway, said the company has signed a letter of intent to purchase the Dornier 328 airplanes and holds an option on purchasing an additional 40 of the aircraft, which seat 30 people. Allen said the airline will begin accepting delivery of the aircraft in April, 1993. The aircraft will replace the Dornier 228, a 19-seat airplane Midway now uses on its feeder routes into Midway Airport, the airline’s base of operations on Chicago’s Southwest Side.
