Escondido Woman Loses in Mid-Amateur Match Play

Mildred Stanley of Escondido was defeated in the first round of match play Monday in the Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships at the par-72 Hills of Lakeway Golf Club in Lakeway, Tex.

Stanley, who made it to match play by finishing nine strokes behind the medalist, was defeated by Andrea Dornin of Miami Springs, Fla., 1 up after 21 holes.

BASKETBALL

Entries for the Second Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, which will be held Oct. 28-29 in the parking lot of San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium, will be accepted until Friday. Entry forms can be picked up at area sporting goods stores. The fee for a four-man team is $50.

The Seattle Supersonics, who are training on the University of San Diego campus, will hold an intrasquad exhibition Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the USD Sports Center. Admission is $3 with proceeds going to the school.
