STATE : Newborn Boy Taken From His Mother at Hospital Found Safe
An infant boy who was taken from his mother at Mercy General Hospital just hours after his birth was discovered safe today at a Sacramento home and a woman has been arrested as a suspect in the kidnaping, police said.
Authorities said the child appeared to be in good condition.
The 6-pound, 1-ounce baby was taken from its mother Monday night by a woman dressed in a yellow visitor’s smock. The woman told the 15-year-old Hmong mother, who speaks limited English, that it was feeding time and took the baby.
Police Chief John Kearns said a woman has been arrested in connection with the abduction and was being questioned. He did not identify her.
“A female is being questioned,” Kearns said. “She has claimed she had a baby in Kaiser Hospital Monday night,” but Kearns said Kaiser did not substantiate the woman’s story.
