A Sun Valley man went on a crime spree Tuesday, fatally shooting a man in a Panorama City parking lot, firing at two other men in a Sun Valley yard and robbing a nearby market of $500, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

“I don’t know the reasons to this at all,” Detective Marshall White said. “It just doesn’t fit.”

The man was described by witnesses as being in his mid-thirties, about 6 feet tall, with brown hair and weighing 170 to 175 pounds, White said. He drove a blue or black pickup truck.

Police believe they know the man’s identity but would not reveal his name. He remained at large Wednesday night. White said the same man is believed to be responsible for all three crimes because descriptions match.

About noon, the gunman fatally shot a 22-year-old man standing near a pay phone at a 7-Eleven store at Woodman Avenue and Osborne Street, White said.

The victim’s name was withheld until relatives could be notified. White said the men did not know each other.

Five minutes later, the man fired two or three shots at two men in the front yard of a house in the 12200 block of Truesdale Street, but missed, White said. The three men, who apparently knew each other, had argued, White said.

At about 12:40 p.m., the man robbed a clerk at a market in the 10100 block of Stonehurst Avenue of personal belongings and $500 from the cash register, White said.

“He’s somebody we certainly would like to pick up before he kills someone else,” Lt. Vince DiMauro said.
