Eugene Chappie Jr., son of retired Republican Congressman and former state Assemblyman Eugene Chappie Sr., has been arrested in Nevada County and accused of growing marijuana on rural property, authorities said. The younger Chappie, 42, of the Sacramento suburb of Fair Oaks, was held in the county jail in Grass Valley in lieu of $3,000 bail. He is accused of possessing marijuana and cultivating marijuana for sale, said Undersheriff Paul Rankin. He said Chappie was arrested after drug agents making an overflight of a rural area spotted what he described as a “hothouse or greenhouse,” allegedly similar to other structures that have been used to grow marijuana indoors. Chappie’s father, an El Dorado County supervisor, represented Northern California districts in the Assembly and House of Representatives for 22 years until he left Congress in 1986.
