Bus and trolley ridership in the San Diego region has risen 17% since last year, the Metropolitan Transit System reported Thursday.
More than 3 million San Diegans rode the trolley between April 1 and June 31 of this year, up 28% from the same period last year, according to transit system figures.
During the same time periods, buses carried more than 7 1/2 million people to their destinations, up 14.2% from 1988. By way of comparison, from mid-1983 to mid-1988, bus ridership increased only 10%, an internal audit shows.
