THE SIDELINES - Bucks’ Moncrief Retiring

Five-time NBA All-Star Sidney Moncrief said today that he was retiring from basketball and that he had verbally agreed to be a commentator on Dallas Mavericks’ telecasts.

Moncrief spent 10 years with the Milwaukee Bucks after an outstanding career at Arkansas. He made the announcement at Hall High School, his alma mater.

“I think the market told me, my body told me . . . some interest outside of basketball told me it was time to retire,” Moncrief said.

At first, he said he would pursue a broadcasting career in Dallas, but he later confirmed published reports that he would work for the Mavericks.

Moncrief became a free agent this summer. The Bucks declined to sign him after knee problems limited his playing time during the past three seasons.
