CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF - SAN JOSE - Man Who Beat Deer Gets 1 Year in Jail
A Los Altos man who severely beat a wild deer with a board and a pipe wrench because the animal was eating his flowers and shrubs was sentenced in San Jose to a year in jail. Last year, a jury found Joseph Anthony Parise, 63, guilty of animal cruelty. Testimony indicated that Parise attacked the animal because of its repeated forays into his yard.
