Injury Forces Parks Out of Wheelchair Tennis

IRVINE — d Parks of San Clemente dropped out of the men’s singles competition at the U.S. Wheelchair Open Championships after pulling a back muscle during his semifinal match against Rick Slaughter of Nashville, Tenn., Saturday at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
Slaughter defeated Parks, 6-2, 4-1.
Top-seeded Randy Snow of Birmingham, Ala., advanced to today’s noon final against Slaughter by defeating Laurent Giammartini of France, 6-4, 6-3.
Chantel Vandierendonck of Holland defeated Monique Van Den Bosch of Holland, 6-1, 6-2, in the women’s final.
