American sculptor Martin Puryear was named best artist Saturday at Brazil’s 20th Sao Paulo Biennial, considered one of the world’s most important international art shows. His exhibit is composed of eight large sculptures of different shapes and patterns made of cedar, steel wire mesh, tar, oak, rattan and rawhide. The prize for the country with the best group of art works went to France. Works by more than 150 artists from 42 countries will be on display through Dec. 10 at the exhibition, which opened Saturday and is held every two years.
