Share

A man was killed late Saturday night after he and his brother-in-law got into a dispute with other motorists, who apparently opened fire with a handgun, police said.

Adrian DeLeon, 25, of Santa Ana was pronounced dead on arrival at Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana, where he was rushed by his brother-in-law, who was driving the car in which DeLeon was shot, police said.

Police declined to identify DeLeon’s 16-year-old brother-in-law. He and DeLeon were driving east on Edinger Avenue, near Center Street, when they got into an argument with motorists in a dark-colored car, police said.

The dark-colored car dropped back in traffic briefly and moments later four or five shots were fired from a pistol. One of the bullets struck DeLeon in the head.

Although police were not disclosing the nature of the dispute that provoked the incident, detectives said they do not believe that the shooting was related to gang activity.
