LOCAL : Canoga Park Gunman Sought

Police were searching today for a gunman who shot to death a 22-year-old Canoga Park man who tried to crash a wedding anniversary party at a church.

Rojelio Galvan was struck in the head by a shotgun blast about 12:30 a.m. Sunday after a party guest grabbed a shotgun from a nearby truck and fired four rounds, Los Angeles Police Detective Larry Dolley said.

Galvan and several friends tried to crash a 25th anniversary party being held in the basement of Emerson Unitarian Church at 7304 Jordan Ave., Dolley said.

A fight broke out in the street between Galvan’s group and members of the party, police said. Galvan was shot as he tried to drive away.

Galvan’s friends drove him to Nu-Med Regional Medical Center in Canoga Park, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Detective Rick Swanston said today that police believe they have identified the gunman, but he declined to release the name.
