Local : Fog Shuts John Wayne Airport
For the second morning in a row, Orange County’s John Wayne Airport was closed because of fog until 8:45 a.m. today, airport officials said.
The closure compounded problems that started when the airport was closed because of limited visibility starting at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, which remained in effect all night, Assistant Airport Manager Jan Mittermeier said.
But because of the closure Tuesday evening, only about three aircraft remained grounded by morning today, Mittermeier added. “We didn’t have a mess as far as the planes trying to get out of here because none were on the ground,” Mittermeier said.
Airport operations were also halted Tuesday morning until 10 a.m. because of fog.
