ON THE SIDELINES : Filipino Wins Bantamweight Title
Lusita Espinosa of the Philippines knocked out Thailand’s Khaokor Galaxy in the first round today, winning the World Boxing Assn. bantamweight title.
Espinosa tagged Galaxy with a half dozen jabs to the right side of the head during an exchange in which the Thai fought back and did not appear to be in serious trouble.
Seconds after they separated, however, Galaxy apparently blacked out and suddenly dropped to the canvas on his back.
The knockout came at the 1:20 mark of the first round in the scheduled 12-round bout at Bangkok’s Rajdamnern Stadium.
