“Rain Man” is certainly raining on “Beaches.” If it weren’t for “Rain Man,” which continues its reign as the most popular rental on the Billboard chart, “Beaches”--a perennial No. 2--probably would have been No. 1 by now. But “Beaches” may not reach No. 1 and may be washed out of the Top Five by the new wave of hot rentals released in the last two weeks. Two films with Top Five potential entered the chart this week: “Major League” (No. 12)--the baseball movie starring Tom Berenger--and the Michael Keaton comedy “The Dream Team” (No. 19). “Lean on Me,” starring Morgan Freeman as tough New Jersey high school principal Joe Clark, moved up to No. 21 in its second chart week. Look for this drama, which grossed a hefty $30 million, to wind up in the Top 10. “The Wizard of Oz” is still tops on the sales chart but will soon be replaced by “Bambi” (No. 3).

* “Working Girl,” the Cinderella tale of a secretary (Melanie Griffith) who makes a big splash on Wall Street, is a feel-good romantic comedy, co-starring Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver, that packed ‘em in at the box office (gross: a whopping $62.1 million). “Working Girl,” which debuted at No. 10, just might work its way up to No. 1 in the next few weeks.
