CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA : Brush Fire Rages

A raging brush fire spread from San Diego County into the rugged canyons of southern Orange and Riverside counties, blackening more than 9,200 acres and filling the sky with ash that fell on cars and lawns as far away as Long Beach. The fire threatened the Riverside County village of Rancho Carrillo, but had not damaged any structures. The blaze began Wednesday during a military exercise at the Camp Pendleton Marine base in San Diego County.
