The City Council has chosen Thomas A. Kathe as the new city attorney, replacing Thomas Wood, who resigned in June to enter private law practice.
Kathe currently administers the land-use division of the city attorney’s office in Los Angeles as a deputy city attorney. He also serves as legal adviser to the Los Angeles City Council on housing, waste management and planning issues.
Kathe, who lives in Redondo Beach, has worked as a private attorney in the field of municipal law. He will begin work in Costa Mesa Dec. 1.
“The City Council is quite impressed with Mr. Kathe’s qualifications, and we are looking forward to having him assist us with the many challenging issues facing the city of Costa Mesa in the coming years,” Mayor Peter Buffa said.
