CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : CALIFORNIA : State Leads U.S. in Agriculture Sales

California remained the nation’s top agricultural producer last year, with farmers reporting gross sales of about $16.6 billion, state officials said. The state’s gross agricultural sales in 1988 showed a gain of about 5% over 1987. Livestock remained one of the largest sectors of the state’s farm economy with dairy products accounting for about $2 billion in sales, about the same as in 1987.
