RAMAT GAN, Israel — Colombia fought to a 0-0 draw with Israel today to clinch a berth in the 1990 World Cup finals in Italy. The Israeli team missed several good opportunities to score in the dramatic game at the National Soccer Stadium here, including an attack by Roni Rozenthal minutes before the game ended. “They are a much better team,” Shalom Tikva, an Israeli player who also missed a chance to score in the 19th minute, said of Colombia.
Colombia’s 27-year-old captain, Carlos Valderrama, told reporters that he thought his team deserved to win and compete in Italy because “it played better than any other team” in the World Cup qualifiers.
