Dodgers, Angels Enter Langston Sweepstakes

Share

The Angels and Dodgers officially entered the Mark Langston sweepstakes Tuesday, both clubs informing agent Arn Tellem that they have interest in the free-agent pitcher and are willing to discuss financial terms when that process begins.

Langston, the Montreal Expos left-hander, and other eligible players began filing for free agency Monday.

They cannot accept offers other than from their own club until Nov. 13, but they are eligible now to receive calls from clubs expressing interest.

Executive Vice President Fred Claire confirmed that he called Tellem Tuesday to express interest on behalf of the Dodgers.

Mike Port, the Angels executive vice president, would not comment on Langston Tuesday, but a source familiar with the situation said the Angels told Tellem that Langston is No. 1 on their list.
