From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Japanese Investing in U.S. Mortgages: Japanese investors have pumped an additional $701 million into the U.S. mortgage market through two new mutual funds that invest primarily in Fannie Mae mortgage-backed securities, Federal National Mortgage Assn., or Fannie Mae, said in a statement. Goldman, Sachs & Co. is lead manager and investment adviser of the new funds. Fannie Mae buys home mortgage loans from the original issuers and repackages some of them as mortgage-backed securities, which are sold to the public.
