NATION : 3.7 Quake Rattles West Nevada

An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 rattled western Nevada and parts of the Sierra shortly after 11 a.m. today. There were no reports of damage.

Preliminary reports said the temblor was felt as a rolling motion from Carson City south to Minden and around Lake Tahoe. It was felt for two or three seconds.

University of Nevada, Reno, seismologists said the quake apparently was centered about 40 miles south of Carson City in the Walker, Calif., area. The U.S. Geological Service in Menlo Park, Calif., placed the magnitude at 3.7 and said the initial quake was followed three minutes later by a 3.0 aftershock.
