The Issue of Raising Sales Tax for Roads

Those in favor of increasing our sales tax in Orange County by one-half cent have been successful in raising lots of money. They are filling our mailboxes almost daily with junk mail about Measure M.

They have raised almost all of their near million-dollar war chest from developers. They apparently believe that with enough money, they can fool the public. They must consider the voter to be incredibly stupid.

The county planners and the developers are the ones who have caused the terrible congestion and traffic problems. They are the same ones who have ignored for years the county’s own regulation of not permitting developments where roads are already too congested. They are the same group that financed the opposition to Measure A, the Reasonable Growth Management Initiative, by arguing that it would increase traffic congestion.

Now they have the incredible gall to tell us that Measure M will not benefit the developers. They have just sent out a mailer stating “Measure M makes developers pay their own way.” The developers are the ones financing this campaign. Voters should recognize this obvious sham. Vote against the developers, vote no on Measure M.
