COLLEGE ROUNDUP : USC Upsets No. 2 UC Irvine in Water Polo

Brad Silver scored a man-up goal with three seconds remaining in the match to give USC a 9-8 upset victory over UC Irvine, ranked second in the country, in a nonconference water polo match Saturday in Los Angeles.
Tom Warde and Julian Harvey each scored four goals for UC Irvine, which dropped to 20-5 on the season. USC evened its record at 10-10.
In the first round of the NAIA District III men’s soccer playoffs:
Biola 1, Southern California College 0--Mark Jones scored the winning goal with a penalty kick in sudden death after the teams played to a tie through four overtimes and five penalty kicks at Biola. Southern California College ended the season at 6-13-1. Biola (9-8-5) will play at No. 1 seeded Westmont on Tuesday. Miguel Dendel had seven saves for SCC.
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
San Jose State 3, UC Irvine 0--Ali Wood had 19 kills and 11 digs for UC Irvine (15-12, 4-10) but visiting San Jose State (13-8, 6-7) swept, 15-6, 15-7, 15-11.
UC Santa Barbara 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Susan Herman had 11 kills and 13 digs for Cal State Fullerton (7-17, 1-12), but UC Santa Barbara (18-10, 9-4) swept, 15-6, 15-2, 15-9. Kristie Ryan 13 kills and 12 digs for Santa Barbara.
