An additional Saturday performance of the Tbilisi State Marionette Theater’s production of “Alfred and Violetta” will benefit the homeless in San Diego and the earthquake victims in San Francisco.

The troupe’s artistic director, Revaz Gabriadze, said he added a 5 p.m. show to the troupe’s last night at the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre in Balboa Park because “I would like to take a modest part in the help which agencies in San Diego provide to the less fortunate in this wonderful city . . . and my heart was especially moved by the news of the tragedy in San Francisco, which we heard with the utmost compassion in Soviet Georgia.”

The marionette theater, one of the featured events in the San Diego Arts Festival, is sold out for all other performances. Tickets for the benefit performance, which are $15, can be purchased at the Old Globe Theatre box office in Balboa Park or by phone at 239-2255.
