Baldwin Park : City to Fill Temporary Post

City officials are expected to appoint Allen Stephenson as acting city manager next week, replacing Michael Yelton.

Yelton was appointed acting city manager after Ralph Webb resigned last May from the permanent post amid complaints about the city’s financial woes.

Yelton, who was also director of administrative services, announced last week that on Nov. 27 he will become director of general services for Simi Valley. He described the switch as a life-style change and said there were no ill feelings surrounding his departure.

Stephenson, who served as San Marino city manager from 1983 to 1987, comes to Baldwin Park from a League of California Cities program that makes temporary managers available to short-staffed cities. Last year, he served as city manager in Claremont while officials there searched for a permanent manager.

In addition, the Baldwin Park City Council on Tuesday named Redevelopment Manager Beverly Pearce as acting director of housing and economic development, a post that has been vacant since John Hemer resigned last April to become director of real estate for the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency.
