A four-vehicle collision on Interstate 15 south of Carroll Canyon Road Friday night killed a 24-year-old man and injured three others, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Steven Michael Matthews, of Richmond, Ill., died early Saturday at Sharp Memorial Hospital after suffering multiple injuries.
Timothy Matthews and John Lentz, passengers in Matthews’ car, were taken to UCSD Medical Center. Matthews was treated and released Saturday evening. Lentz was listed in good condition.
A hospital spokeswoman said Harvey Woodfield, the driver of another car, was treated and released at Pomerado Hospital.
The accident occurred at 10:42 p.m. when Woodfield stopped his vehicle while headed north on I-15 after observing an accident ahead of him. His vehicle was struck by two others and spun into the center divider, where he was hit by a fourth vehicle, CHP said.
