Hugo Perez and Peter Vermes have rejoined the U.S. national soccer team, a week before its crucial World Cup qualifying match at Trinidad and Tobago.

Perez and Vermes, both of whom play for foreign teams, combined for the last U.S. goal in World Cup play, a score that beat El Salvador, 1-0, on Sept. 17 at Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Perez tore a groin muscle on Sept. 29 while scoring a goal for Red Star of the French second division. He missed the game at Guatemala on Oct. 8 and the return match against El Salvador last Sunday. Perez is considered to be the top scoring threat for the U.S.

Vermes, who plays club soccer in the Netherlands, missed last Sunday’s game against El Salvador because of the chicken pox.

The United States, trying to qualify for its first World Cup since 1950, must win at Trinidad in order to qualify. The Americans and Trinidad each have 3-1-3 records, but Trinidad would qualify with a tie because of a better goal differential, 7-4 to 5-3.
