From Times staff and wire service reports

Country music singer James Talley, who sang at the White House when Jimmy Carter was President, says selling homes is his priority now but there’s still satisfaction from his music.

In the 1970s, he released socially conscious country music like “Are They Gonna Make Us Outlaws Again.” First lady Rosalyn Carter said at the time he was her favorite singer.

Talley, 47, said in a recent interview that he tired of the music business this decade and decided selling real estate would be an appealing career. His sales have totaled at least$1 million during each of the five years he has spent in his new occupation.

“Real estate is my life now, but the music makes the life worth living,” he said. He still sings some and has just released a new album and had his four old ones re-issued.
