From Times Staff and wire service reports

Filmmaker Roger Corman, who was quick to start work on “The War of the Satellites” following the 1957 Soviet launch of Sputnik, is ready to dramatize headlines again with a Berlin-based movie.

The movie, titled “The Day The Wall Came Down,” won’t be a documentary of the recent East German reforms that included opening the wall separating the two Berlins, Corman said Tuesday.

“I didn’t want to do a totally political story,” he said. “So I wrote over the weekend an outline of an espionage thriller laid against the tearing down of the wall.”

Corman, who started work on the 1957 drama one day after the Soviet satellite was launched, said he has already shown the script idea to Bavarian Film Studios and won tentative approval to start shooting in Germany by springtime.
