It’s Official: Green Belt Gets a Name at Last
The pathway bisecting Hermosa Beach--for years known as the “Green Belt”--got an official name this week from the City Council, but the new moniker bore no reference to the path’s recent notoriety as the site of a leash law controversy.
The name, Hermosa Valley Green Belt, was culled from a list of 83 suggestions ranging from the ambitious World Peace Park to the metaphysical Wavelength Greens.
None of the entries referred to the recent dispute over whether dogs should be allowed to run off the leash there. The debate was settled when Hermosa Beach voters extended the leash law to the 20-acre strip, which the city is purchasing for its newest park.
