Soviets Defeat U.S. in Volleyball Opener
The Soviet Union men’s volleyball team defeated the United States, 16-14, 5-15, 15-11, 4-15, 15-13 in the opening round of the eight-team World Cup at Osaka, Japan.
The United States meets Cuba next in the round-robin tournament.
Other opening round scores: Cuba defeated Brazil, 16-14, 15-5, 15-9; Italy beat Cameroon, 15-2, 15-1, 15-4, and South Korea defeated Japan, 11-15, 7-15, 15-12, 16-14, 17-15.
