Hunter’s Vote
It is unfortunate that Assemblywoman Tricia Hunter’s procedural vote on the family planning issue, during the emergency legislative session to provide funds for rebuilding after the devastating earthquake, was characterized in the news as an anti-family planning vote. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I was one of the many pro-choice advocates who had the privilege to work on the victorious campaign of Hunter. During those 12 weeks of volunteering for her, I not only got to know this very fine woman, but came to understand her strong commitment to reproductive choice.
And I have no doubt that when the Legislature reconvenes in January, she will be one of the Republican leaders helping to restore the $24 million that the governor slashed from the family planning budget.
