Split Roll Tax Initiative Challenged: The National Federation of Independent Business and several other business groups and individuals filed the constitutional challenge in the state’s 2nd District Court of Appeal in Los Angeles Wednesday. The suit said the initiative is illegal because it deals with more than one subject. The initiative would cut homeowner property taxes and raise the property taxes paid by businesses for housing programs and aid to the homeless. More than 800,000 signatures have been collected in support of the initiative, backed by the creators of the Proposition 103 auto insurance initiative. If enough signatures are verified, the initiative would appear on either the June or November 1990 ballots. (Filed Nov. 15, 1989. Case No. B046209)
