Merger of Two Private Schools Awaits Hearing

Share

Attorneys for Westlake School for girls agreed Monday not to complete a merger with Harvard School for boys until a full-blown hearing on the issue can be held Dec. 22.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Miriam Vogel approved a hand-written stipulation agreeing to the delay, which was hammered out by attorneys on both sides of a lawsuit in the case. The suit, which seeks an injunction to block the controversial merger, was filed Friday on behalf of four “Westlake Mothers.”

The mothers are part of a large, vocal contingent of Westlake parents who are opposing a merger of the non-sectarian Holmby Hills girls’ school with Harvard, a Studio City boys’ school under the jurisdiction of the Episcopal Diocese. Harvard parents appear to be more accepting of the joining of the two schools.
